Patricia Hammar

In 2006, Patricia Hammar founded P.K. Hammar Legal to provide high quality, customer-centered and cost-effective legal services to small business clients. Ms. Hammar manages all operations of P.K. Hammar Legal and supervises its attorneys in the delivery of services to the firm’s clients. Ms. Hammar also personally provides ongoing legal support and counsel for many of the firm’s clients. She advises clients on a variety of employment practices, including employment contracts, benefits, and employee handbooks, and advises businesses on corporate formation and compliance matters.

Ms. Hammar’s 20 years of professional experience allows her to address her clients’ uniquely complex matters, while also anticipating and preventing future legal issues. During her career with the U.S. Government, she served in the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration, culminating in her position as Special Assistant to the Director of Policy for Civil Aviation Security at the FAA. In the private sector, Ms. Hammar has held management and general counsel positions at an emerging small business, a mid-sized government contracting firm, and a publicly-traded Fortune 1000 company. In these roles, Ms. Hammar provided strategic direction as well as legal advice regarding corporate compliance, contracts, and employment law.

Ms. Hammar received her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She received both a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and Masters in Public Administration (M.P.A.) from the University of Baltimore.

Ms. Hammar is an active member of the Maryland, District of Columbia, and Virginia Bar Associations.

Mary Rhodes

Mary Rhodes joined P.K. Hammar Legal in 2012. She works closely with the firm’s clients on matters such as contract drafting and negotiation, business formation, employment and internal governance, lease disputes, corporate policies, insurance coverage, mediation and litigation. She aims to make sure businesses are protected, informed, and provided the best possible representation.

Before joining P.K. Hammar Legal, Ms. Rhodes handled primarily business-related litigation, starting her career with a large international law firm in DC. She has experience pursuing and defending claims involving business contracts, corporate governance, real estate, intellectual property, employment, insurance coverage, products and premises liability, property damage, personal injury, health care, and estate litigation. She has also assisted in negotiating settlements, arbitrating disputes, and assessing business risk and liability.

Ms. Rhodes grew up in Montgomery County and graduated with honors from the George Washington University Law School. While attending law school, she completed a two-year law clerkship with a local insurance-defense firm, helped lead two student organizations, and participated on recreational sports teams. She completed her undergraduate degree with honors at the University of Southern California, earning a B.A. in Communication and a minor in Gerontology.
